Body Confidence: Part I

Happy October loves!! How has your week been? I hope you’re navigating through Nairobi’s bi-polar weather much better than I am. sigh!

I am extremely excited about this month’s series since we will be talking all things body confidence. It is something I struggled with for years before I got to where I am now and I received a number of questions about it from the people who have been able to witness my journey.

I haven’t always looked like I do now neither have I always felt like I currently do about myself and my body.  But what I have learnt over time is this, beauty starts in your mind before it is seen in the mirror:

How you look is not as important as how you feel about yourself because how you feel is what you exude. The most confident people are those who love themselves so much, despite their flaws

That is why you find people who may not necessarily be the most beautiful oozing confidence. From the way they talk to the way they walk to the way they carry themselves and do things.

And the secret to such confidence, I have learnt, is through self-love. The kind where you love yourself so unconditionally that your energy automatically rejects anyone who doesn’t. Love your acne prone skin, even as you work toward clear glowing skin. Love your love handles and food baby, even as you work towards having a smaller waist-line. Love your five forehead and your crooked smile because they are what God has blessed you with. Love yourself, just as you are, even as you work towards where you would like to be.

Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with body confidence because I am nowhere near perfect. I am by no means the stereotype of what it means to be a “beautiful black woman”. But I am me. With my button nose and my goggly eyes. With my small boobies and petite thighs. I am me and I am so damn beautiful, just the way I am. And guess what? So are you! Embrace your beauty. Look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself the pep talk every morning before you start you day. You are beautiful, you are confident, you are smart, you are attracting nothing but good things, you are doing great, you are the sh*#t honey and you are loved! Don’t you ever forget that. 🙂

Over the next 3-4 weeks, we will talk about different aspects of body confidence & I really hope we get to learn from each other. Also, brace yourselves to see more photos of me than I wouldn’t normally care to share on the blog (hides face). Wishing you an amazing weekend loves! 🙂
