Overflow: Self-Growth Sunday

Happy Sunday loves! I hope you have all had a great weekend. This week is my last week of finals. Whoop! Whoop! 🙂

Overflow is one of those things that I constantly talk about and seek, but I don’t always work towards it. Some of my experiences have taught me that you cannot pour from an empty cup, particularly when the empty cup is yourself. More often than not we find ourselves pouring from our cups but never really replenishing them. Be it at work, in school or in personal relationships. You have to do your best at work, get good grades in school, sustain your relationships with both family and friends, do good to others and also show love to yourself every single day. There is always this silent standard of expectation upon your shoulders, you know? I personally find myself pouring from my cup, even when I know I am pouring into something that will not replenish it. But this year and more specifically, this quarter, has been a period of self-love and growth. Of unapologetically falling in love with myself. Of showing myself the love I freely give to others. Of being brutally honest with myself. Of letting go of anything and anyone who either drains my cup without refilling it or is not in line with my purpose and energy. Do you know why? Because I am done pouring from an empty cup. It may sound selfish, but it really is not.

Fill your cup and let the world benefit from your overflow.

I like to take the end of the year as an opportunity to reflect on the entire year and to let go of things that no longer serve me. It is not just about other people or things, sometimes it is habits like inconsistency or procrastination. I read somewhere that when you invest time in yourself, you increase your value. When you know what you are worth, you never sell yourself short. You stop lying to yourself. You stop settling for the average. Your heart and energy guide you to where you can be of value and experiences present themselves before you.

As we come to the end of 2017, I seek to be in a space where regardless of what I may be going through, nothing destroys my inner peace or steals my joy. I desire to be in a space where I don’t argue with just anyone over just anything anymore, I just know what I know and I am okay and at peace with that. I seek to overflow and attract overflow in my life. Mimi Ikonn once said, whatever you want to receive in this world, you must first give. For you to receive overflow, you have to give overflow. It is as simple as that. Penny for your thoughts? 🙂

I really hope that you take time to identify the things that fill your cup and those that drain it. I hope that you take time to refill your cup, so much so that it overflows. I hope that you always remind yourself that you, as much as anyone else, deserves the love and affection that you freely give to others. I wish you all a great week ahead full of overflow. 🙂
