A Heart of Gratitude

DSC_0068.jpgHi Loves! Can you believe that we are already half-way through 2017? Time surely is flying and it is my hope that you are constantly learning and growing as the seasons change.

I came to learn that if you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. Part of the inside being the spirit. Most people tend to assume that spirituality is about being ‘holier than thou’ and the works but I do not concur. I believe that spirituality is about practicing habits that nourish your spirit, being mindful and connecting with a being/essence larger than ourselves. There are many spiritual practices one could do but today I’ll share about gratitude.

A heart of Gratitude is a magnet for miracles. 🙂

During my low moments in the previous year, I often focused on everything that was going wrong and gratitude was honestly the last thing on my mind when in such situations, which is a habit I think many of you can resonate with. But then I slowly learnt to try and find that ‘tiny’ thing to be grateful for. Sometimes it is just being able to talk (I love to talk) or to taste the flavor of food (I also love to eat) because I am able to acknowledge the fact that there are people who wish they could talk but they can’t, and unfortunately, no amount of money can change that.

So when I came across the idea of a Blessings/Gratitude Jar, I decided to make one for me and one for my best friend. I got mason jars from Nakumatt, personalized them using ribbons that I got from House of Leather a while back and labelled them using colorful labels that you can get from any stationery shop. I also wrote a verse at the back to remind us that our God is more than able and there is nothing that is too big for Him. For the record, I really tried not to use the glittery ribbon on his. Hides face!

Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly and above all that we could ask or think, according to the power that works in us. -Ephesians 3:20

Whenever something happens, no matter how big or small, and it either makes me feel grateful or happy, I write it down on a piece of paper, fold it and put it in the jar. I have my fair share of ahhh moments (as Oprah calls them) this first half of the year and I am extremely grateful for them!

I do not know how the first half of the year has been for you, what I do know for sure is that it is never too late to practice gratitude. You can use an old coffee jar or a bottle, it does not have to be anything fancy. The Gratitude Jar is not about how it looks on the outside but what you put inside it. Although it does not hurt to give it a little bit of character. 😉

Life has so many ahhh moments! It could be something as simple as sipping your favorite wine, reading a book you love or even spending time with your loved ones. Having a record of all these ahhh moments really helps, particularly when you are low because it reminds you of how truly blessed you are regardless of your present situation. My best friend and I have shared so many ahhh moments and he constantly reminds me that we are not lucky, luck cannot give us what we have, we are blessed!

Sometimes, I like to write things that are not as though they are and they actually do come to pass. At the beginning of the year I wrote down that ‘I am grateful for my brand new DLSR Camera and all the amazing content I will capture with it’ and I put it in the jar. Mind you, I did not even have money for it at the time but guess what? I eventually did get the camera and named her Grace because I honestly wouldn’t have gotten her if it were not for God’s unlimited Grace.

Thoughts Become Things!

One of my favorite verses of all time is Mark 11:24 which says that ‘Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours’. You might seem crazy being grateful for getting something you do not yet have, but a little faith and a lot of effort to achieve what you desire will go a long way.

It is my hope that you can incorporate the practice of gratitude into your lifestyle as you work on growing your inner self and nourishing your spirit. If it works for you, feel free to share the idea with a friend or even make a jar for them, especially if they are going through a hard time. Do have a productive week loves! 🙂
